Monad of the Month - TA0286 - Harland Mount, Scarborough
Welcome to Monad of the Month! This series will feature a monad (1km) grid square within the North and East Yorkshire area where we’re lacking records in our database. We’ve chosen grid squares that lack records but also contain interesting or valuable habitats or (locally or nationally/internationally) designated sites, and that are close to large towns, cities, or transport links where possible, to make them accessible, should you wish to visit and do some recording!
Our Monad of the Month for September 2025 is TA0286, located near Harland Mount, Scarborough.
TA0286 is located over part of Harland Mount, near Scarborough. It includes a small part Harland Mount Yorkshire Wildlife Trust reserve, and land immediately adjacent to it, a rough acid pasture which is being restored to species-rich grassland. Grassland plants indicative of unimproved grassland can be found here, as can Common Lizard and potentially Adder.
Currently TA0286 has only two records associated with it, one beetle and one mammal. The main area of interest is the land making up part of Harland Mount, which has footpaths throughout, with trees, shrubs, and grassland. The remainder of the area contains some arable farmland, caravan sites, and part of an industrial estate. The nature reserve itself has a public footpath and permissive route throughout.
Please ensure any land you record on is openly accessible or has access granted to you.
